Level 3 Award in Information, Advice or Guidance

This Level 3 Award in Information, Advice or Guidance aims to provide learners with the skills and underpinning knowledge required by employers in a broad range of contexts, where information, advice or guidance is provided.

The qualification is appropriate for learners who have responsibility for information, advice or guidance as part of their core work and for those who may be involved in general signposting within the sector. The qualification supports work-based learning and is appropriate for those working in further education supporting young people with careers and personal choices, such as teachers, lecturers, support staff and learning mentors.

It’s also appropriate to those giving advice in the voluntary sector, health workers and anyone who would benefit from a programme of study reinforcing good practice, underpinning knowledge and formally recognising learning and skills developed through experience.

On completion of this course, learners will be able to:

• Demonstrate how to explain the information, advice or guidance service and own role, agreeing use of the service with clients.
• Understand the importance of confidentiality, data protection and impartiality in interactions with clients.
• Understand the importance of effective communication skills in the delivery of information, advice or guidance.
• Understand how to explore a range of options with the client to meet their requirements.
• Know how to agree an appropriate course of action with the client.
• Identify personal development needs.
• Understand the relationship between information, advice or guidance.
• Recognise the limits of own ability and role in relation to delivering information, advice or guidance.
• Understand equality and diversity in relation to information, advice or guidance.
  Understand own organisation’s policy on record keeping, data protection and confidentiality.

• Learners must be aged 19+.
• Ideally, learners will need to have literacy skills which are at Level 2 of the National Standards in Adult Literacy. The Launch Group can provide additional, tailored support to learners who’ve not yet achieved a Level 2 in Adult Literacy.
• Be working in a role, or have access to a work experience opportunity, which involves providing information, advice and guidance.

To show sufficient understanding of all learning objectives, learners must:

• Complete a series of written theory-based assignments.
• Complete a series of practical tasks, during which they demonstrate their ability to provide high-quality information, advice and guidance, and self-evaluate their own performance.

Upon completion of their qualification, learners receive both digital and hard copies of their nationally accredited qualification, at no additional cost.
