Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA)

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement qualification is a nationally required qualification for those who wish to assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills. It provides the essential knowledge and understanding that assessment staff need, as well as the opportunity to practice assessment skills – followed by in-depth feedback and development goals from one of our own highly experienced assessors.

This qualification aims to meet the needs of a range of trainee assessors, such as:

• Those wishing to assess nationally accredited qualifications and apprenticeships
• Those wishing to wish practical-based occupational workplace in a range of job sectors
• Those who are already in a teaching job, of which assessment also forms part of day-to-day role

As learners’ study towards the qualification, they’re also provided with essential, free resources they can regularly use and adapt in their actual teaching role.

On completion of this course, learners will be able to:

• understand how to involve learners and others in assessment
• understand how to make assessment decisions
• understand quality assurance of the assessment process
• understand how to manage information relating to assessment
• understand the legal and good practice requirements in relation to assessment

• be able to make assessment decisions about occupational competence
• be able to provide required information following the assessment of occupational competence
• be able to maintain legal and good practice requirements when assessing occupational competence
• be able to prepare assessments of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
• be able to carry out assessments of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
• be able to provide required information following the assessment of vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
• be able to maintain legal and good practice requirements when assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding

There are no nationally agreed entry requirements for this qualification, provided learners are 19+. TLG can provide an initial skills scan and informal discussion for anyone unsure of their suitability.

To show sufficient understanding of all learning objectives, learners must:

• Complete a series of written theory-based assignments
• Plan and assess practically-based occupational competence in a workplace environment
• Plan and assess written-based parts of nationally-accredited qualifications

Upon completion of their qualification, learners receive their qualification certificate, at no additional cost.
