Micro-teach

What is a Microteach?

A micro-teach session is a mandatory part of this qualification. It enables you to demonstrate your skills, knowledge and understanding as a teacher, and to put your newfound theory into practice for your chosen subject. This involves planning, preparing, delivering, and evaluating a short session which you will deliver to your peer group. If you are currently teaching, it might be possible to deliver a session to your own learners.  If not, don’t worry – your TLG qualification tutor can support. Your microteach will need to delivered using a virtual meeting platform, for which your tutor will provide comprehensive guidance on how to set up and run smoothly.

What makes a good session?

• Teacher’s knowledge, confidence and professionalism. 
• Passion and enthusiasm to convey the subject. 
• Inclusion of learners e.g. discussing their experiences, involving them in relevant and varied activities, asking questions, giving relevant support and feedback. 
• Remembering you’re not an expert – and your programme tutor isn’t an Ofsted inspector. In terms of passing this part of your qualification, you only need to show that you’ve prepared and reflected to a high standard, enabling you to tick off a lot of the important teaching principles we’ll reiterate in this section. Ideally, you should continue this practice even after you’ve passed this qualification and continue to develop as a teacher.
